I hope everyone had a relaxing weekend. Around here, we were fairly busy, but in that tinkering, fun kind of way. Saturday was Olivia's first big birthday party invite. We went over to this place called Zonker's (kind of like chuck-e-cheese). Although she had fun, twenty four and five year olds running around was kind of exhausting for us. We are definitely more of the one guest per year of age kind of people.
I can say being able to sew has its benefits. Not wanting to spend a bunch of money we don't have, nor wanting to give a girl some mindless toy that will end up in pieces in a matter of hours, it pays to know how to whip something up. Not new around the craft world is the pencil roll. I have been making versions of these for the kids for a while now, but this one is a version of Kathy Mack's rainbow hued roll. I love that it becomes so easy for the kids to know where each color goes. And you know exactly which one is missing if there is a space.
The giant grosgrain ribbon-tie was for two reasons: 1. sometimes making bows can be a challenge for five year olds. I went for a snap. 2. This is what I had on hand, and wasn't going to spend money for some kid's birthday gift. Sorry kid.
After the party we went over to my brother's house. Hollie and I worked on the design for the walls in Cohen's room. They are actually a complete knock off of a room I saw on Flickr. Hey, we can't all be original all of the time. I can't wait to show finished pictures of the room. We are hoping to have it finished in two weeks. He IS almost two months old you know. I think it's time to have the nursery finished.
Sunday was spent grocery shopping and WAIT...garage sale browsing (something the bible belt doesn't do as much on Sundays- Fri. and Sat. only round these parts)...We picked up a 1950's table and four chairs for ten dollars. Yes, ten bucks! It is going to need a coat of paint for sure, and one of the seats is busted in the chair, but come on! Those things can be fixed man! TEN dollars. That's two bucks apiece!
Ok, enough with the exclamation points. (I think some people are just exclamation-point people. I am one of them for sure)
Off for some more coffee. Good morning!
