We've been hanging out again with our good friends vicegrip and crowbar this weekend, tearing out the horrendous vinyl flooring in our kitchen. You know the type: white and beige, cheap, and ugly. We were hoping to find hardwood underneath, but before we got to the wood we ran into linoleum tiles from the seventies. This poses a problem because of the super glue used to adhere these to the floor. Now we are thinking we might just lay black and white checkerboard linoluem tiles over top. It would still fit the era of the house and be economical. Since our home is pretty tiny, we have to be careful not to over-improve or home if we want to make any money back when we sell it. Maybe we will go ahead and rip up the lino and paint the floor. I don't know.
What I do know might scare you. Much to my common sense of what is good design, I find myself really loving this seventies tile. Yes, I am fully aware I have lost my mind. But it gives off this lovely glow in the room, and it is not ugly beige like many floors from that era; it is a mustardy yellow, which is one of my favorite colors. Don't try to tell me I am a lunatic, because I already know. I am just glad that David totally supports my inner disco queen. Actually, he says it reminds him of his Buelita's house. His grandmother lives in Laredo, so I think he likes having that vibe all the way up here.
So, here it is:

Well, it is going to stay like this for at least a week before we start laying new floor, or tearing out this one. For now, I will just be hanging out in there listening to some jams.
