Hi all! The sun is shining here. It's a beautiful day. Vintage Indie did a piece on my kitchen. Go check it out!
On another note. I was recently thinking about what people do when they are stressed out. Being a person that suffers from some general anxiety issues I have had to learn ways to center myself quickly and effectively. Although there are so many things a person can do to calm themselves like taking a walk, or dancing, or doing a hobby like cooking I thought I would share a breathing technique I have learned that really helps me in many situations.
It was introduced to me by my sister-in-law, Ana, years ago. She had mailed David a CD by Dr. Andrew Weil on tips for relaxation. In the CD Dr. Weil uses this breathing technique and it really works for me.
Breathe in deeply for 4 counts.
Hold that breath for 7 counts.
Exhale for 8 counts.
Of course, these counts are based on what ever you find comfortable. Mine are pretty close to a second per count. What I like about this is while you are doing the breathing it is very hard to think about anything else except breathing. It therefore gives your brain a break from the stress. You are also pumping much more oxygen to your brain with makes you feel better. Give it a try. I like to do it a minimum of 4 repetitions or until I can feel the calm. Sometimes it takes more. Give it a try. It is nice to have a tool available that can be used anywhere.
