{a bit of weekend red,white, and blue for you}
David was on call last night, so we are in slow-going mode this Saturday morning while he tries to get in a bit of sleep. For once, he came home early; normally he is trudging in around 11:45am ready for a shower and sleep. You can imagine that can put a damper on a day of fun. Today though, we might actually end up getting out and about!
I am feeling extremely inspired lately and I really believe that the origins of it truly come from a prolific amount of creating around here. No, not all of it is pretty or even very good. What I think ultimately matters is turning that key in your mind to unlock the creative waters. Sometimes that can happen just by doodling. Two days ago I was feeling stuck so I pulled out the watercolors and began painting words and such...not thinking about making an image. Sure enough, just using paint to write opened up some boxes in my mind and I started getting the urge to make some drawings. Interesting how that works. It takes me back to those paper bag bookcovers on all my highschool textbooks. Remember those? By the end of a semester they were personal-sized grafitti walls. I think that sometimes as an adult we don't stop to simply allow our minds to wander while our fingers draw our thoughts. We place to much expectation on the result and forget that it is supposed to be an excersize in brainstorming.
So this week I am making a commitment to myself to stop and write down any thoughts or doodles I may be thinking right at that very minute.
