My weekend was so relaxing, spending time with friends and family, feeling productive around the house. I wiped off all the gutters on the house and washed the siding. It's amazing how much nicer the house looks with all that summer dirt cleaned off. Not to mention the satisfaction one feels when they accomplish something.
A while ago I mentioned I cut my own hair using some YouTube videos as my guide. Let me say, if you are not familiar with the number of video tutorials out there on both YouTube and eHow you are missing out. Not only have I watched tutorials on cutting hair, but also learned how lay tile, fold origami, install a dishwasher, and play the bongos amongst other things.
For cutting hair, I used this tutorial from a stylist in South Korea. My hair is very long, almost to my natural waist. I liked that he did almost all of the cutting from the front, thereby allowing me to do this cut myself. I parted my hair and was able to pull all the hair forward to cut it in this layered style. Now, I should say that in college I was a hair model for a national salon. This meant I would get called when one of the students needed to cut someone's hair for a test. Because of this, I not only had a lot of different hairstyles in college, but learned a lot of techniques along the way just by paying attention. I understand that this may not be a haircut for someone who has never cut their own hair before.
Another resource I have found to be invaluable are the Ford Models YouTube videos. Stylist Jonny Lavoy explains his techniques so clearly that anyone can achieve the looks he creates. The videos range from achieving Veronica Lake waves to formal updos. My personal favorite video, which has completely changed the way I fix my hair every day is his video on making sexy supermodel curls. For me, this technique makes is so much easier to have cute hair every day of the week. Since I have naturally curly hair I will often wash my hair and wear it naturally curly the first day. On the second day, when my natural curls start looking frizzy, I brush through my hair and use the supermodel curls technique. Day three, the curls have relaxed a bit and have more of a rocker look. Then I am ready to wash my hair on day four. Now, I never take more than about 15 minutes max to fix my hair. Watch out though, his videos can get addicting, so make sure you have some time to sit and watch.
It really is amazing how much better I feel if I just have time to fix my hair. For instance, today I am just wearing jeans, a white t-shirt, and navy wool cardigan...nothing special, but I feel so much more put together now that I have fixed my hair. It took me ten minutes- not a lot of time to feel so much more chic. And except for my workouts, I have only word a ponytail maybe three times in the past three weeks! Not too shabby.
