As the seasons change I find my general habits changing with them. Maybe a better word would be exchanging, because I begin to feel that certain rituals feel stale in cooler temps. It also just happens to be part of my personality. I must have change of scenery. This sounds pretty crazy after my worry over moving in a few years, right? It's true though. Any time I start feeling restless I know I have to rearrange, reorganize. Then I'll feel refreshed. So, here are some recent habits for you.
I have been eating grits every morning for breakfast instead of fruit and yogurt. Probably not quite as healthy, but so warm and cozy in my tummy.
Before leaving the house every day I put on a piece of jewelry. This new habit only replaces my complete lack of caring from this summer. It's amazing how much more put together I feel just by wearing some bangles.
Instead of laying out on a quilt in the backyard I have found myself almost every day nestled into the spot you see above. That is my new thrifted wool blanket I got for $5. I am going nuts over plaid this year.
Gardening books have been replaced for now with completely indulgent reading- international spy thrillers are a favorite.
As I mentioned in my last post, loud and crazy summer tunes have been replaced with Jazz. I'm talking Count Basie, John Coltrane, Chet Baker, etc. Our cable is connected to our stereo system, so I put on the Jazz music channel and turn off the TV. Instant Jazz collection. And I always find myself pondering having a cocktail party.
Lemon water has been replaced by hot tea. I have a current crush on Darjeeling. I also have a crush on the word Darjeeling...and the word Festooned.
How about you? Exchanged any habits lately?
