Here it is Wednesday evening already, and as I wait for our turkey chili to be ready (inspired by Mrs. Mayfly) I started thinking about how some months seem to be on overdrive. Somehow Thanksgiving is only two weeks away and I am left wondering where the months are going. Time is more than welcome to slow down a bit in my opinion, as I am in no rush for these moments to pass me by.
These wishes for a slower pace got me thinking about all of the tiny moments that make up our day. Serving hard boiled eggs for breakfast with toast and apricot jam made by the lovely Julia. Picking out clothes. Helping to fasten buttons. Peanut butter lunches. Emails to friends. Faces peeking at me from between little feet. I've always heard that the brain usually only remembers significant events in life, those exceptional moments. But in reality, I think it is the times so seldom remembered that make up our lives, our relationships.
And so I write these things down, not counting on my memory to record these snippets of time. This way, I will remember sitting at the kitchen table, listening to jazz, with Zoe making groups with colored pencils on my left, and a distant sound of a singsong voice from Olivia while she constructs houses of legos in her room. We wait for him to walk through the door- when kids will start running- and we'll sit down to eat.
