Today my younger brother turns 31. Sometimes I get the image of him at 15 stuck in my head, and forget that he is a husband and father. My thoughts of him go to memories of dragging him to WalMart after one of his wrestling practices, Josh being completely miserable and exhausted in the store while I get some teenage "necessity." Or memories of catching him sneaking reeces peices in his room. We have always been fortunate that we are so close in age. I am now 32. We were two years apart in school, which worked out well since David was a grade below me. We all hung out...it never really occurred to me to NOT have Josh hang out with us.
So, in the spirit of his day, I am going to list things that are good about having a brother.
1. Like me, he knows pretty much every song and rhythm ever made. We always end up playing, "can you guess this song." (Hall & Oates is on right now josh!) The Con is that he knows waaay more about music than me, so I can't be a know-it-all.
2. I have always had a ready-made friend. So, I never really stressed about my weekend plans. The Con, sometimes this much time together causes jerky high school boys to ask if this is my boyfriend. Um, no dude, it's my brother.
3. I never had to share my clothes with a sister. Cons, I still had to help choose your clothes since you are colorblind.
4. He shares some of my personality quirks. The con, he KNOWS all of my personality quirks and can torture me if he chooses.
5. A brother will really keep you on the right path of fashion, because if you, say, get a fairly unattractive short haircut, he will not hesitate to call you rat-head and make you grow it out as soon as possible.
Happy birthday Josh! I'm so glad we live here by you so we can celebrate your day with you. As far as brothers go, I'd say you've done a fairly stellar job so far!
