dawn emerging

a new dawn

This morning, I sit here in my chair, coffee at my side, staring at my all-to-familiar computer screen.  Know why it feels so good?  Because I haven't sat here in 19 days.  We are finally back from vacation, and no matter how nice it is to get away sometimes, there really is no place quite like home.

Being away gives you a whole new perspective to your life that you couldn't see before.  For instance, I realized upon walking into my home that it smells a bit aged.  Not bad, but since so much of the furniture we own is from the 50s and 60s the entire house smells like old varnish and upholstery.  I guess the way I describe it doesn't sound very appealing.  It actually made me smile when I walked in because it was comforting.  I am sure that it doesn't smell quite like this when we are living in it every day, with showers and cooking and whatnot, but I like knowing that the soul of our home is a bit old...like a comfy pair of slippers.

Hopefully after a few days of settling in I will be back to my normal routing around here.  Thanks to everyone who has stuck around over the past few weeks with my spotty posting.  I am happy to be back.
